 Meet Tamara -

My name is Tamara Murphy, and I am a holistic health coach. Based in the beautiful mountains of Fairview, North Carolina, I help women live with healthier habits, vitality, and joy.

My interest in wellness began decades ago. With a nurse for a mom, healthy habits and tips from Prevention Magazine were always being shared and reinforced in our house.

My world was forever changed when my mom died quite suddenly from pancreatic cancer, just after her 60th birthday. Losing her was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. I was 39 years old and the mother of two young boys. I needed my mom, and I started to worry that cancer would come for me too.

That is when I first became interested in the study of longevity. I turned my focus to the Blue Zones studies—research on the areas of the world where people live the longest, healthiest lives.

I learned that daily lifestyle choices have a much greater impact on our longevity than our family genetics. Our habits control how our genes express themselves. Studies show that adherence to healthy habits can largely reduce the genetic risk of early death. Research reveals that only about 20% of our lifespan is dictated by our genetics. The remaining 80% is determined by our lifestyle choices and our everyday environment.

Learning this helped me channel my grief into something positive. I know that there are no guarantees about when and how my time will come, but I can live each day to the fullest instead of living with fear.

I now focus on intentional, healthy habits that bring me joy. I enjoy reading, learning, eating delicious, healthy food, and meal planning for the week ahead. I love exploring and hiking the local trails right here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I had a blast hiking the West Highland Way in Scotland with my family a few years ago, and I’m planning to hike along the Camino with my husband next! Spending quality time with my family, friends, and dogs is what brings me the greatest joy. As an empty nester, my absolute favorite place is wherever I can be with my grown kids!

Becoming a Certified Holistic Health Coach was a natural evolution of my lifelong commitment to education and wellness. I realized that the same tools I use to support students and new teachers—patience, tailored strategies, and deep listening—are exactly what women need as they navigate their own transitions and wellness. I am here to help you tap into your own wisdom and create a life of vitality and joy.
